Professional Licensure Disclosure-
Programs at the University of Southern Mississippi that prepare students for initial licensure as educators are designed to meet the licensure standards set by the Mississippi Department of Education. Students seeking licensure in another state are advised to contact the appropriate licensing board in that state to determine specific requirements of guidelines for reciprocity. The University of Southern Mississippi cannot confirm whether a particular licensure program meets requirements for licensure outside of the State of Mississippi.
Paralegals may not provide legal services directly to the public, except as permitted by law. No state currently licenses paralegals, although state and national certifications are available and encouraged. California law prohibits anyone from using the title “paralegal” or related titles unless certain qualifications are met, including the attainment of a degree in paralegal studies, like the one offered at Southern Miss that is approved by the American Bar Association.
The Medical Laboratory Science program is not designed to lead to licensure in Mississippi as Mississippi does not license this profession.
The USM Medical Laboratory Science degree program is designed to meet the ASCP (American Society for Clinical Pathology) certification requirements and may not meet licensing requirements for all states.
As of 03/18/24, the states and protectorates that require medical laboratory scientists to become licensed are as follows: 1) California, 2) Florida, 3) Hawaii, 4) Louisiana, 5) Montana, 6) Nevada, 7) New York, 8) North Dakota, 9) Puerto Rico, 10) Rhode Island, 11)Tennessee and 12) West Virginia.
Licensure also requires passage of a national certification exam administered by the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science (ASCLS) or the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) and a specific number of required clinical hours, which vary by state.
Professional Licensure Disclosure
Each state and protectorate establish their own specific licensure/certification requirements. One component of the licensure/certification requirements involves educational requirements. However, there are other elements requirements established by the states and protectorates that affect one's eligibility to be licensed/certified, including, but not limited to, criminal background checks, age, residency, examinations, clinical hours, and specialized courses (not offered as part of any institutional curriculum), etc.
Below, please find the deterrninations as to whether or not the program meets educational requirements for the specific states and protectorates:
